01 — Project Area

IMPERIAL OIL COLD LAKE

Sublatus — Imperial Oil project northwest of Cold Lake, Alberta

PILE CUTTING

NORTHWEST OF COLD LAKE

The scope covers approximately 4 km of above-ground pipeline supported by 8-inch and 10-inch piles spaced approximately 10 metres apart. Sublatus removes the pipelines; Innovative Well Abandonment cuts the piles 3 metres below surface.

Applications

  1. 01

    Pipelines

  2. 02

Gas plants and oil sands sites

  3. 03

    Production facilities

  4. 04

    Tank farms

  5. 05

    Well sites

02 — Technology

Cutting Technology & Execution

Ultra-high-pressure waterjet cutting, and the sequence the crews follow on each pile.

Ultra-High-Pressure Cutting

Dual pumping systems drive ultra-high-pressure waterjet cutting through pile walls without heat or sparks.

Minimal Ground Disturbance

Cuts are made from inside the pile, with minimal to no disturbance to the surrounding ground.

3 m Specified Depth

Piles on this project will be cut 3 metres below surface. The system can reach 10 metres or more.

External Cutting Tools

External cutting tools are available as an additional capability where internal access is limited.

Execution Sequence

  1. 01

Sublatus shears off the pipelines and I-beams.

  2. 02

IWA will cut piles to approximately 1 ft above surface, then water jet cut at 3 m below surface.

  3. 03

Internal debris is checked and cleared, with steaming if required.

  4. 04

Sublatus pulls the piles with a tracked excavator.

  5. 05

IWA backfills the holes with a backhoe using client-supplied material.

03 — Rates

Pricing & Rate Options

Two mutually exclusive pricing options. The client selects one option in advance of mobilization.

Option A — Per Pile

Per Pile Cut

$0$200

per 8-inch pile cut

$0$250

per 10-inch pile cut

Option B — Day Rate

Productive Field Day

$0$9,500

Per 10-hour productive field day. Unlimited cutting during those hours; travel and subsistence extra.

04 — Assumptions

Assumptions & Conditions

The basis of estimate for this proposal, including access, schedule and operating conditions.

Backfill Material

The client will supply sand or other suitable backfill material. IWA will backfill every hole using a Case 590 backhoe.

Pile Removal

Sublatus will provide the tracked excavator and pull each pile once IWA completes the cut.

Pipeline Removal

Sublatus will shear off and remove the above-ground pipeline and I-beams before IWA begins pile trimming.

Pile Interiors

Steaming may be required to clear debris from pile interiors before the internal cut can be completed.

Cut Depth

Piles will be cut 3 metres below surface with a 360-degree UHP waterjet cut.

Pricing Option

The client will select either per-pile pricing (Option A) or the day rate (Option B) before mobilization.

Accommodation

Subsistence is charged at $275 per person per day, or $0 where camp accommodation is provided.

Site Access and Safety

The client will provide site access along the right-of-way, site orientation, and any required gas-detection and communication devices.
